Description

• Skin: The outer skin is thin, brown, and rough, with a slightly grainy texture.

Harvest Time

• Harvest Season: Sapodillas are typically harvested 4 to 8 months after flowering, which can vary based on the region. In tropical climates, the harvest season often falls from late summer to early fall (August to October), but they can also bear fruit year-round in some regions.

• Ripening: The fruit doesn’t ripen immediately after being picked, so it is usually harvested when it’s still firm and allowed to ripen off the tree. Once ripened, the fruit will soften and become sweeter.

Taste

• Flavor: The taste of sapodilla is sweet and rich, often described as a mix of brown sugar, pear, and a hint of spice. The flesh has a smooth, grainy texture and is very juicy when ripe.

• Sweetness: The sugar content can be quite high, with a typical sapodilla having a sugar content of 20-25%, giving it a very sugary, almost syrupy sweetness when fully ripe.
