Description
The D101 Mas durian is a medium to large variety, with each fruit averaging 2 to 3 kilograms in weight. The fruit has a bulbous, oval, or nearly round shape, characterized by five distinct seams. Its husk is covered with long, conical spines, each extremely sharp and angled in various directions across the surface. The husk is dark green with brown-tipped spines, and there is a small, star-like pattern at the base of the fruit. The stem is dark brown, fibrous, and sturdy.
Beneath the sharp exterior lies a thick layer of spongy white pith, encasing several chambers filled with flesh. Each chamber contains 2 to 3 pieces of fruit, which are golden yellow, sometimes tinged with shades of orange. The flesh is enveloped in a thin, taut membrane that is easy to puncture. Once opened, the interior reveals smooth, creamy, custard-like flesh with a tender, soft, and paste-like texture that is not watery. At the center of the flesh are brown seeds, ranging from small to relatively large.
The 101 durian has a subtle aroma, blending sweetness with a vanilla-like fragrance. Its flavor begins with a mild sweetness that is not overpowering, followed by delicate notes of bitterness and sometimes a hint of sourness, leaving a lingering sweet-bitter aftertaste on the palate.
