Description
It is a small to medium-sized variety, typically weighing between 2.8 and 3 kilograms. It had an oval shape, widest in the middle and tapering at both ends, with a thick, fibrous, brown stem. The exterior is sharp and rough, covered with widely spaced, large triangular spines. The husk ranges in color from green to yellow-brown and gray-brown, with a spongy, dry, white to ivory interior encasing the flesh.
The flesh is divided into multiple chambers, with each chamber containing 3 to 4 segments (known as arils). The flesh is vibrant, bright yellow, sometimes tinged with orange hues. It has a thick, smooth, and creamy texture, reminiscent of butter, and contains a relatively large seed. The fruit sometimes have a strong odor with garlic, sulfur, and onion nuances. The flesh has a sweet, slightly savory flavor and contains pungent, subtly bitter undertones.
