Description
The fruits weigh 1.5 to 2 kilograms. They are typically oval, asymmetrical, or heart-shaped, with a short stem. One side of the fruit often features prominent, curved bulges, giving it an uneven appearance. The surface is covered with small, sharp spikes clustered tightly together. These conical spikes range in color from green to brown to yellow and are arranged in overlapping patterns, concealing the vertical seams running along the fruit. The spikes also extend over portions of the crown around the stem, while the bottom of the fruit features a small, coin-sized brown ring.
Beneath the spiky exterior, the husk can be cut and peeled open to reveal a white, spongy interior that encases multiple thick lobes of flesh. The flesh ranges in color from yellow to white, with each plump lobe having a slightly wrinkled surface and semi-firm skin. The interior is sticky, soft, creamy, and dense. The flesh contains medium-sized seeds, and the number of seeds, as well as the fruit’s ripeness, can impact its quality. Unevenly ripened durians may have areas of firm, tough flesh.
D24 durians are known for their strong sulfuric aroma and high fat content. Their complex flavor profile combines bittersweet notes with fruity, onion, and garlic undertones, accompanied by a hint of alcohol and a candy-like sweetness in the aftertaste.
